Biographical Sketch

Dr. Peter J.P. Holden is a General Practitioner and senior partner in Peak District National Park, UK. As a senior member of the Council of the British Medical Association and their General Practitioners Committee, he is the BMA’s lead on Pandemic Flu and Emergency Preparedness. He is also a member of the Department of Health’s Emergency Preparedness Clinical Leaders Advisory Group and the Chief Medical Officers’ Pandemic Influenza Clinical Operations Group. Dr. Holden is also an Immediate Care Physician providing PreHospital Critical Care in a primary HEMS environment with two Air Ambulance services in the UK. He qualified in medicine at The University of Sheffield in 1979 ultimately specializing in General Practice. He joined a rural general practice in 1985 with its own Community Hospital serving an isolated area eventually developing an interest in PreHospital Emergency Medicine and emergency preparedness. Together with others he has been at the forefront of formalizing this area of medicine.
