Washington, DC (New-Fields) March 12, 2007 – Dr. Tilman Jolly, an emergency medicine specialist with the US Department of Homeland Security, will present a talk on the current status of America's national pandemic plan at the 4th International Bird Flu Summit in Washington on March 14-15.
Dr. Jolly currently serves as Associate Chief Medical Officer for Medical Readiness with the Office of the Chief Medical Officer at Homeland Security and has spoken and published extensively on emergency planning, injury control, and trauma.
His talk will reinforce the Bird Flu Summit’s theme, which is to improve strategies on pandemic preparedness, prevention, and response. Homeland Security plays a key role in the U.S. government’s efforts to prevent the spread of bird flu, through the National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza.
Bird flu outbreaks have been reported in 60 countries in Asia, Europe, and Africa. Of the 277 human cases of bird flu reported by the World Health Organization, 168 have been fatal.
In the two-day event, public health officials, policy makers, scientists, and business leaders will focus on effective planning and preparation, improved coordination among all sectors to prevent a global pandemic, and business continuity in the face of a pandemic.
Over 100 delegates representing over 30 countries are expected at the conference. Noted speakers include L.A.
